UBC Botanical Garden: Weekend Worker Required

The Botanical Garden Nursery requires a student to work weekends and statutory holidays in our nursery on South Campus. This position will be shared with one other student.

Principal duties include: watering container plants in glass and polyhouses, monitoring environmental control systems and reporting problems, light cleanup jobs both inside and outside, performing a quick security check of the premises (reporting problems to Campus Security), and watering outdoor hanging baskets and planters at the main garden during the summer months.

This position reports directly to the Botanical Garden Nursery Horticulturist or other designated horticultural staff.

Pay: $15.00/hr

Applicants should be available for about one hour on Friday to receive instructions for the upcoming weekend and be able to work independently. Please note that although this is a weekend position, the job is shared so that the successful candidate will work two out of four weekends per month and usually four hours per day. Be prepared to work statutory holidays (including Christmas). A background in Horticulture or Plant Science and an interest in temperate plants are preferable but not essential.
