Study Sustainable Agriculture in Cuba!

LFS 302A (3 cr): International Field Studies in Sustainable Agriculture – Cuba

When the Soviet Union collapsed, Cuba went from high input monoculture to world leadership in sustainable agriculture virtually overnight. By combining the interactive learning capabilities of an online course and a three week field studies trip to Cuba in May, students explore the Cuban model and its relevance for food production in other countries, in particular Canada.

Three plus weeks of travelling through Cuba this May (April 1-May 23) meeting leaders of Cuba’s sustainable agriculture movement and visiting urban agriculture, farm cooperatives, universities, research stations, soil labs, plant protection labs and more. Not to mention beaches, mountains, dancing, music and community!

Registration is open. Enrolment is limited to 24 students, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students are encouraged to register early to ensure a place and to participate in pre-field trip learning activities.

Instructor permission is required to register for the course. Contact Wendy Holm at wendy@wendyholm.com or 604-417-2434 to begin the process.
