Paired texts you could possibly use:
- “Simple Recipes” by Madeleine Thien (deals with family and intergenerational conflict)
- Game of Thrones (select scenes)
- Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson (Indigenous text on identity and growing up – probably meant for grade 12/seniors)
- To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han (YA coming-of-age from the POV of a Korean-American girl, very accessible)
- Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng (a story about a mixed Chinese-American family; cw for themes of suicide and trauma – lots of things to unpack, probably meant for grade 12)

I’m really feeling this Word Art; I’ve been thinking about how I can implement more technology into poetry. I felt that a lot of my students were reliant on technology, so I’m thinking that any way I can play towards that tendency will be useful. It also looks like an easier way to create a more visual, creative product involving words for some of our other courses.
