2. Sayonara (Bye for now)
I didn’t think I would be taking two courses after the year I had this year. The reason I ended up staying in this class is because of all of you! Teacher candidates, despite being at the end of your long, arduous journey: you showed incredible enthusiasm and social justice values in this class! [As did the seven inservice educators coming off their year].
As I wind-down my Secondary profession a bit to continue on in Adult Education and moving more into the career in curriculum development, I have great hope and optimism for you in the future in our classrooms.
Now, having said that, I have been through the wringer with recent strikes and government downsizing. Enough to have lost my stamina/health a bit. I do NOT want the same to happen to you. We need to maintain the new momentum with new teachers to repair the still broken system. [We really need our TAs, Multicultural Workers, non-enrolling positions, and Special Programs back! VSB needs to hire MORE TOCs]
So, please feel free to use my BCTF union and FISA (independent school) experience, as well as my curriculum development ideas [with credit of course ;)] to guide you in your new/current/mid career education ideas.
Finally. Happy PRIDE Vancouver!
