Abstract
To support the Government of Canada to combat climate change, British Columbia (B.C.) public school districts have to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from operations. B.C. School Trustees Association (BCSTA), a non-government organization aiming to support and advocate for effective public boards of education in B.C., plays a role in reviewing climate change strategies and advocating for increased funding to support 60 B.C. school districts to achieve GHG emissions reduction target of 43% of the 2010 level by 2030.
This project aims to investigate the impact of B.C. public schools on climate change, identify the ways to achieve the GHG emissions reduction targets, and estimate the amount of the provincial government’s funding required. The findings of this project will help BCSTA support in advocating for increased funding and operational needs for school districts to meet the reduction targets.
