My name is Michaela, and I am a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Arts at UBC. I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in Commerce through the Sauder School of Business. During the school year, I live on campus in residence, but I am originally from a small city in Ontario. Fun fact: I live about 5 minutes away from Niagara Falls!

In campus life, you can find me as the Internal Director & Professional Development Coordinator for TheCalendar as well as a volunteer Student Consultant for the UBC Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office (SVPRO). If you have questions about either of these, I’d love to chat!

My largest academic interest mimics a huge psychological question in today’s world — why do people behave the way they do? I am extremely interested in learning about why people do what they do, motivation, disorders, and personalities. A recent spark to my interests has been the study of links in behaviour between psychopaths & serial killers and CEOs & multi-million/billionaires (this also happens to link my two specializations quite nicely in some ways). Other academic interests include society (e.g. its people, cultures, and functionality), politics & law (e.g. policy, laws, etc.), and the topic of sexuality & gender across various academic disciplines.

Professionally, as stated earlier, I very much enjoy the work I do alongside SVPRO, and I jump at every opportunity I get to educate as many people as possible about consent culture, sexual violence, nightlife practices, and safer spaces. I am passionate about helping others grow and believe in the value of teamwork and healthy team environments & organizational cultures. After university, I am looking to pursue a career in human resources and professional development, likely doing further education and specialization at another institution before entering the job market.
