Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Oct. 2020 – Present)

I report to Assoc. Prof. Emily Cranston at the University of British Columbia as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Sustainable Nano Biocomposites Lab. I currently hold a Mitacs Accelerate Fellowship determining whether we can use cluster-triggered autofluorescence to characterize microplastics. This is in conjunction with BC Research.

I was president of the UBC Postdoctoral Association for the 2021-22 academic year and  was instrumental in organizing the postdoctoral finance survey recently released by the university.

Research Associate (Jan. 2018 – July 2020)

Prior to joining UBC, I was a Research Associate in Materials Science in Prof. Stephen Eichhorn’s group at the University of Bristol, UK. Funding for the position, as part of a national team on New enzymatically produced interpenetrating starch-cellulose gels, was provided through the EPSRC (Grant Research Number: IUK 59000 442149).

MRes/PhD (Oct. 2012 – July 2017)

I was awarded a 4 year EPSRC Doctoral Training Grant Studentship to join the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies at the University of Bath, UK. This consisted of a one year Masters in Research followed by a PhD.  My PhD focused on Cellulose-based biomaterials for tissue engineering under the supervision of Dr. Ram Sharma and Prof. Janet Scott, during which I spent a three month placement at the Institute of Physics in Sao Carlos, Brazil under Prof. Igor Polikarpov.
