Why don’t we see more eccentric people with interesting interior designs?
I am an eccentric person and like courageous interior designs: Clam Shell beds, baroque pianos in the dining room, coffee tables shaped like a dragon, and the list goes on. However, I have never seen any of these ideas in anybody’s home. Isn’t that strange? Maybe not because I might just not know the very rich. But even the people that I know with a million dollars in their bank account still don’t do it. You would think that once you have more money than you know what to do with, you would start realizing your childhood dreams in your home. But I think I am wrong. Ordinary wealthy people just don’t have the guts to convert their homes into something crazy. It is like they are still counting their money even if they don’t need to anymore.
Where do you have to look to see eccentric people and designs?
My best guess is that the only people with crazy ideas that they translate into reality in their houses are a few of the super-rich. I am thinking of sheikhs in the Middle East first and foremost. Another place would be Asia because a few of the Asian cultures tend to show-off a little more with their possessions than rich folks in the Western world. The only real place for crazy design in the US would probably be in Malibu or on some of the privately owned Caribbean islands. There will be a few more as well but definitely not as many as I would have expected.
