The Frameless Interior Door

Frameless Interior Doors – Flush and Trimless.

Modern Interior Doors that are frameless and trimless are in a world of their own.  Currently less than 0.1% of all interior doors installed are frameless doors.  It seems that the traditional trimmed interior doors are here to stay.  Sad but true.  When it comes to contemporary design, though, doors that have a hidden frame are oftentimes beneficial to minimalist architecture.  I have listed my favorite door types below (with some explanatory words) and it might help people to know what is out their for new renovations or new home builds.

Frameless Interior Doors

  • A type of Interior Door that is contemporary in nature and has an invisible frame when the door is installed in the home
  • This type of Interior Door is also trimless which means it has no door casing
  • It is a type of modern interior door with regular handles or push-to-open door knobs
  • This type of concealed door frame has a layer of drywall mud above the l=angle that connects frame and wall

Trimless Interior Doors

  • An Interior Door that is modern in appearance and has no visible door frame after installation
  • Door Casing or Door Trim is not necessary in this type of modern door
  • Door Handles can be standard levers or knobs
  • There is drywall tape and mud connecting frame and wall with a layer of paint on top

Flush Interior Doors

  • Modern Interior Doors with a flush door panel that is uniform in appearance and 1 3/8″ or 1 3/4″ thick
  • Not necessarily frameless or trimless but still a minimalist designed interior door
  • Handles used are usually door levers or door knobs
  • All hidden doors and all concealed doors are usually flush with the wall
