About Me

Hi, I’m Nicole, and welcome to my blog! 🙂

I am a teacher candidate at the University of British Columbia, and I will be using my blog to document my journey through the teacher education program. I am really interested in learning about mindsets and understanding what educators can do to create a classroom environment that strengthens a student’s self-confidence and self-esteem in regards to their academic abilities and intelligence levels. I am also very passionate about the performing arts, and I am really interested in looking deeper into the connection that music has with academic achievement and success in schools and beyond. As the program progresses, I will be researching more into my inquiry question(s) and will hopefully be posting as much as I can on here about what I have been learning! I will also be trying to use my blog to talk about my experiences during my long practicum and to keep track of my successes and things that I still need to improve on. Additionally, I will be completing my 3-week community field experience with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in June, and I am so excited for that to start and to be able to share my experiences with everyone!

A little bit more about me: I am a huge bookworm. I love to read all kinds of novels, whether they be for adults, teens, or children. Some specific genres that I absolutely adore are fantasy, sci-fi, and mystery. I am an active user on the website Goodreads, and every year since 2013, I have challenged myself to read at least 50 new books a year. Last year (2016), I managed to read 89 books! I hope to bring my love of reading into my future classrooms and to pass it on to my students. Literacy is so important to our everyday lives, and I also want to be able to show students how fun and exciting stories can be.

I also love softball, Netflix, and everything related to Harry Potter and Disney.

Thanks for stopping by!
