Regulations

Regulations on these annual fisheries are made by the Japanese government. The Wakayama Prefectural Government sets a yearly quota allowing over 2000 dolphins to be captured and killed or sold to marine parks and dolphinariums around the world.

The international law provides no protection against the slaughtering of dolphins. The International Whaling Commission does not protect 71 out of 80 ocean organisms. This is a non-governmental group that overlooks whaling activities and does not protect against the killing of dolphins and porpoises.
