There are about fifty people that are involved in the process of the slaughter of these Japanese dolphins. Of these fifty people, about twenty-six of them are fishermen that actively participate in the slaughter and actually killing of the dolphins, with the help of dolphin trainers. The rest of the people involved in this cruel dolphin hunt work in dolphin meat warehouses, distributing and cutting up the meat for local markets to sell.

These twenty-six fishermen do not change much from year to year. During the annual drive hunt, two to three fishermen will board one boat, there will be about thirteen boats in total, and set out to the open ocean at sunrise, hoping to catch a glimpse of a pod of dolphins migrating. They have developed a method that allows them to catch up to one hundred or more dolphins a day.
