I am Noelle Richardson, a student studying Earth and Environmental Sciences at the beautiful Kelowna University of British Columbia Okanagan campus. My interest in the earth and environmental sciences began as I grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, exploring the great outdoors. I aspired to understand the diverse processes that form and change our landscapes, ranging from small-scale ecological impacts to large-scale orogenic processes.
Subsequent to completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in Thunder Bay, I completed a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences in three years. During these years, I gained valuable experience by taking a diverse course load including field school, in summer student jobs, and participating in volunteer projects in my field. Although I am fascinated by all Earth and Geographic Science aspects, I developed an interest in the Environmental Sciences. My research interests include:
- Fluvial Geomorphology
- Aquatic Health
- Hydrology
- Hydrogeology
- Geographical Information Services (GIS) and Cartography
- Environmental Impacts
- Climate Change
- Ecosystems
- Geoscience
- Fieldwork
In addition to my education and research interests, I enjoy spending my spare time volunteering for both extra-curricular and community events; exploring British Columbias hiking trails; at Big White; and playing in a recreation volleyball league. One of the biggest influences in my educational experiences was my time spent on the Earth and Environmental Sciences Course Union as an executive, which consists of a group of students who act as leaders, provide assistance and information to students in the program.
These experiences lead me to pursue a Masters degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences. I am enthusiastic as I enhance my knowledge and skills that will assist in a future career as an Environmental Scientist.
