Extracurricular

Earth and Environmental Science Course Union, September 2015 – April 2016: The Earth and Environmental Science (EESC) Course Union is a student-lead group that  brings together students interested in EESC. The executive group act as leaders, provide assistance and information to EESC students, as well as develop a community within the program. After participating as a member for my first two years as an undergraduate student, I was nominated and selected as the Event Coordinator on the executive team in my last year. My role was to organize all EESC events, of which duties included acquiring licenses and making bookings, completing orders and purchasing, staff scheduling, and set-up and take down. EESC events that I organized included club days, fundraisers, volunteer excursions, industry tours, social events and the annual year-end wrap up social. Participating in the EESC course union was a gratifying opportunity while studying at UBC Okanagan, both as a member and as an executive.

Stream Gauging: Throughout my studies at UBC Okanagan, I am fortunate to have been offered unique learning opportunities and gain experience through a variety of field work. One opportunity was to assist in measuring discharge of Mission Creek, Kelowna. I, along with another undergraduate student spent a day traveling along Mission Creek, using a Marsh McBirney Flow meter to measure discharge at several locations.

OCEOLA Fish and Game Club: The OCEOLA Fish and Game Club runs a program throughout October to monitor Kokanee salmon population in Middle Vernon Creek in Lake Country, British Columbia. Student volunteers frequently attended the live trap, recorded the number and sex of spawning Kokanee, and placed the fish upstream from the trap.
