Industry Interest Statement

September 28, 2018:” … Today was a rather interesting day. We got to look into the market research data of our product we will be launching next month. I am pretty confident that our customers are going to love what they are going to get from this product. It has been an exhausting and exciting six months since the start of this project and I cannot wait for our product to enter the market….”

This is what I want to write in my daily journal a few years from now. Technology had always fascinated me since my early days, and soon I found myself indulging in computer programming and algorithm design. Working for IT Solutions Company in India, it was not hard for me to discover my interests and motivation. The possibilities that can be unravelled with use of technology in any field be it health sciences or market analytics, is awe inspiring.

Business Analytics, Data Scientists, Business Intelligence these are the buzz words that are currently resounding in the IT industry. There is a massive influx of information that available through various sources such as social network sites, surveys and government organizations. It is estimated that is there is about 5 million Gigabytes or roughly 5 trillion megabytes of data on the internet and it is expected to grow by 23 percent every year. Customer have become the drivers of the technology and innovation. Organizations do not have to rely on explicit surveys to get customer feedback. They can get a lot of information by accessing the activity on the various social websites. Fascinated at the depth and breadth of role that technology play in business analytics, I would like to make a career in as a Business analyst.

Roles of a business analyst encompasses a wide spectrum of responsibilities. I am particularly interested in designing Information systems that would cater to organizations need to understand their marketing analysis. What captivated my attention is the technological advancements in the field of analytics. Big data technologies like Hadoop, IBM Hadoop etc have changed the research landscape for organizations. Organizations can cultivate rich, real time customer information by designing systems that can snoop data from the internet by following customer activity.

Marketing research is one of the most important functions of any business. The intensely competitive nature of businesses and increase in well-informed customers has giving rise to innovative solutions to cater the businesses. The industry dealing with market research, which includes management consultancy companies and extensive market research companies like Nielsen, is estimated to generate a revenue of USD20 billion. Industry growth is projected at 2.5% annually in the years 2013 to 2018. These statistics show the growing awareness of businesses all over the world to acknowledge the strategic role of marketing analytics for pursue of market dominance.

In the past, I had the opportunity of working on Big Data technologies and analysing the uses it can have to modern day business was exciting. Especially, the pivotal role it can play in business that want to align their products to diverse customer behaviour. Pursing MBA seemed to be the stepping stone to help me bridge this gap between technology and marketing processes. I aspire to play a strategic role in designing organization solutions to address their marketing analytics issues with latest available technologies. Such a role will leverage my past experience as software programmer and also the new set of business management skills that I would acquire in my MBA.
