…Community
One of the main causes of mental health difficulties for students is isolation. A recent study of Canadian university students found that 66% reported feeling very lonely (cbc.ca). We can address this problem by building a stronger sense of community and belonging on campuses through:
- encouraging student groups and networks
- organizing cultural, social, and sport events
- creating supportive environments

…Inclusion
A healthy campus has safe spaces for everyone. Unfortunately, our society creates many obstacles for minorities. Discrimination and exclusion can significantly affect students’ mental health. We can help campuses be a healthier and inclusive space for everyone by:
- developing policies built on inclusion and diversity
- organizing awareness events
- encouraging inclusive professional practices

…Democracy
We are collectively responsible for creating a healthy campus. One person alone, even with great skills and intentions, cannot be responsible for producing a healthy community. To acknowledge this, we need to allow everyone to take part in its creation by:
- encouraging participation of students, faculty, staff
- sharing ideas of the difficulties and possible solutions
- building a better campus together through collective projects

…Services
When times are challenging, students will need professional help and resources. We need to be there to offer quality services that are suited to their contexts and circumstances. We need to embrace student diversity by offering a variety of services adapted to their needs. We can:
- offer counselling and support groups
- organize outreach activities and prevention events
- plan crisis intervention
