Also referred to as Air Bison or Sky Bison. Extremely friendly and loyal creatures when they like you. However, they can be vicious when attacked or when their friends are attacked. Flying bison were the original air benders. They lived high in the mountains. Monks would befriend a bison and they were companions for life. Sadly, most of them were killed. It was believed for 100 years that their species were extinct until Appa appeared frozen in an iceberg.
Appa is completely loyal to his friends. He has extremely good memory like a human and also dreams like us humans. He feels the same emotions, fear, rage, sadness, confusion, happiness and love.
Flying bison have almond shape eyes, horns on their heads and a beaver like tail. This tail contains a lot of muscle and strength and can be used as a defense mechanism. It also propels them in the air when they are flying. They are white and furry. They have extremely good hearing. They have arrows on their heads running all the way down to their tail. They are big animals that shed a lot in the summer. In addition they have six legs. According to sources a flying bison is a combination of real world manatee and bison. Their diet is vegetarian and it includes hay and berries.
Appa is a lovable creature that enjoys spending time with his friends.
