About Dr. Schanding

G Thomas Schanding, Jr, PhD, RPsych (he/him)

Dr. Schanding is Registered Psychologist (British Columbia) and an Associate Professor in the School and Applied Child Psychology program at the University of British Columbia. He currently also serves as the Director of the Psychological Services and Counselling Training Centre – the university-based clinic within the Faculty of Education. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi’s School Psychology program (APA-accredited) and completed his doctoral internship at Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (APA-accredited) in Houston, Texas. Originally, from Kentucky (USA), he moved to Vancouver, BC in 2021. Clinically, Dr. Schanding has extensive experience in assessment and intervention work with Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. He is also interested in the school experiences of youth identifying as 2SLGBTQIA+. He has worked and consulted in schools, hospitals, and university settings. His research focuses on social and emotional learning (assessment and intervention) and social, emotional, behavioural functioning for youth in schools.
