There are a number of tech initiatives under way at Thompson:

  • Challenge Based Learning – Both grade 6/7 classes are part of a Challenge Based Learning  innovative program involving the use of technology and inquiry based teaching.  Fifty-three students are provided with an iPad to use for the school year, both at home and in the classroom.  This is in addition to the fifty iPads that remain at the school.
  • Colour Symbol Image (CSI) Initiative – This Making Thinking Visible initiative is a school-wide goal designed to create a culture of critical thinkers.  Technology is an instrumental part of this goal.
  • Student Reporting Policy Pilot (SRPP) Initiative – The school is involved in the SRPP initiative on portfolio assessment and reporting.  Launched by the British Columbia Ministry of education in August 2018, the K-9 Student Reporting Policy Pilot allows teachers and students to explore new ways of communicating student assessment with families.  In the 2019-2020 school year, thirteen school districts and two independent schools were involved.

Thompson is in the second year of the program and receives a grant for support.  Some teachers also received additional classroom iPads while most of the funds are used for staff training.  As a part of the school’s local approach, every teacher reports via the portal with the intention of opening the channels of communication between students, parents, and teachers.  Visit the website for more information.
