Abstract

The aim of this project is to identify areas where the City could plant additional trees based on the social benefits that aesthetically pleasing tree species provide. Using cherry blossom trees as a proxy for aesthetically pleasing tree species, the statistical analysis in this project aims to determine whether cherry blossom street tree density is correlated with housing costs, income or population density. Additionally, our analysis will use Multi-criteria Evaluation to identify areas where trees could be planted based on their proximity to greenways, cultural spaces, healthcare facilities and low-income, low-tree density areas.
