Data

Streets and Places of Interest

Park Polygons, Vancouver Boundary and Healthcare Facilities* were pre-loaded on the UBC Geography G: Drive, while Cultural Spaces*, Greenways, and the City Streets Package were obtained from the City of Vancouver’s Open Data Catalogue.  All were downloaded as shape files with the exception of Cultural Spaces which was downloaded as a table.

All shape files were projected to UTM Zone 10.

*Healthcare facilities include places such as hospitals, care homes, and clinics. Cultural spaces include places like museums, galleries, and cultural and community centres.

Street Tree Data

Excel data sheets of all the street trees in Vancouver were obtained from the City of Vancouver’s Open Data Catalogue. There were 22 Excel files for each of Vancouver’s neighbourhoods, and these data sheets had information on the civic address and species of each street tree found in the neighbourhood. We focused our efforts on all cherry trees in Vancouver by filtering out all other types of tree from the Excel sheets. The cherry tree data used in this analysis is shown by Figure 1.
