Responding to Debbie Pai’s Blog, “Entrepreneurship”

This is a word that has been discussed frequently. Entrepreneurs, a group of people who control the economics of companies or even the world. In Debbie’s blog, entrepreneurship needs necessary practice, which I agree so. Practicing as for entrepreneurs, is essential element for them to succeed in long-term for the sake of lessening risks. In a long term of building and expanding a company, experience is definitely crucial because everyone they hire can do the specific job, the difference between leaders and employees is who can take the risks. However, with the courage to take risks, experience is also needed because no one will listen to a person who has not even seen the situation before.

Every single start-up needs ideas, labors, capitals and entrepreneurship. Ideas are cheap because the ideas sometimes are similar. Labors and capitals can be found easily as long as money is adequate. However, a brilliant entrepreneur can handle all of these but it can hardly be found. Training yourselves as entrepreneurs is a significant skill. Maybe we are not creative enough. Maybe we are not sensitive enough to capture every single detail that can make us succeed. Maybe we are just not skillful. But we have attitudes. We are not afraid of falling out of the cliff. We are brave enough to deal with it. This is what I learnt from COMM 101. Thank you and my journey cannot start without you.

Responding to Jiaxuan Zhang’s Blog “Fido’s Customer Service”

After reading the blog posted on Jiaxuan’s site, “Fido’s Customer Service“, I think this is a perfect same point of view regarding to these analysis. In my blog, I wrote about Four Seasons’ Customer Service, in the same way, I think customer services are the best way to build up customer relationships.

In addition to Jiaxuan’s blog, I find it interesting that she divides this process of constructing relationships into three parts: before, during and after purchases, which I agree. In different stages, the requirements of services vary. For example, before customer reach their products, the customer services should be there to help the build up the way they get touch with each other. However, after purchasing, maintaining the good image of products and fixing issues with products can be urgent. As for point of difference, personally, I did not receive any phone call since I changed my phone account into Rogers. I really miss fido’s phone  call services although  it is annoying sometimes. This is also can be determined as a point of difference. It can be seen that at least Fido are trying to do something different than other company. All in all, doing the work with all efforts is more useful than finding something useful to do.

Four Seasons, a luxury hotel, is famous for its outstanding customer services. In a piece of  news titled “Four Seasons’ Customer Service: Consulting The Systems Behind The Click of A Hotel Door”, when the author leaves his door and goes back  to pick up something, he sees that there is a worker from engineering department working  on fixing his door. Due to the other customer’s complain about the noise of his room door when it is closed, the management  team immediately send someone to repair it with considering of his schedule.

The services of Four Seasons Hotel stand out in 3 parts: 1) a specific standard for how a door should sound when it is closed, 2)a completed reporting system, and 3) a non-interrupt scheduling. These characteristics absolutely help mainly the business in two aspects: 1) point of difference, and 2) customer relationship. Although this is a luxury hotel, which means it spends a lot of money on every single aspect that it can improve on, many other hotels cannot achieve this sweet and caring services. This significantly separates Four Seasons from others. As for a hotel, working on customer services is a major step to reinforce customer relationship because this is a main method they get touch with their customers. From this point of view, Four Seasons is really outstanding as a hotel.

Another Aspect of Considering a Fantasitc Deal: $3B for Buying Snapchat

Recently, Facebook suggested to purchase Snapchat by paying $3 billion back. There is no doubt that this is a huge amount of investment, and this purchase means a turning point, or in other words, a once-for-all chance for a company which is  just two years old. However, human beings’ thoughts cannot be manipulated easily: Snapchat shut the negotiation down.

There are numerous people who wonder why  Snapchat is such stubborn to insist that they can create more value in the future. Here is a statistics showing that back to the history, not all the companies made appropriate choices. Sometimes, if a company is not capable to change people’s lives, they’d better to accept these treasure deals. 

Facebook is an appropriate example that they declined the deal provided by Google for $15 billion. But, indeed, they made the traditional means of communication changed successfully. Therefore, that deal did not worth so much if we make a comparison with how they worth now.

In the future, there is still a reasonable possibility that Snapchat can make a difference on human’s lifestyle. Reasons can be concluded into their value proposition is different, they keep people’s privacy by limiting the time of using profile. But they still need to consider their platform is hot-white mobile which does not have too much capacity to expand.

Throughout the whole article, office workers can be surprised that these extraordinary business leaders  have so much energy and the contribution they put into their careers.

Some business leaders highly suggest that exercises help them to prepare for hundreds of demand for traveling. Frits van Paasschen was recently interviewed for an Associated Pressarticle on a bike ride. In general, I am not surprised by how much they are fond of training and exercises but the spirits that they actually practice for their jobs.

For everything, a good attitude is an essential foundation. For these businessmen and businesswomen, they enjoy their life, meanwhile, hold their careers. Treating business as priority is crucial. This is also a kind of business ethics. Caring and cherishing everything value for businesses. Employing this attitude is also an essential strategy to build up and reinforce the image that this leader is worthy to trust and commit some difficult works. Becoming a leader in the life can also mean acting as a leader in business for merchants.

Facebook is experiencing the stage of plumment

During the last quarter, Facebook shares suffered a lot.  By restricting the title that employee trade their shares, Facebook shares experienced a drop by 3% in October 31th again. Recently, Facebook has been through a lot of negative news, and people are losing hope towards it gradually.

Today, there was news came out that Facebook was going to use $3 billion to buy the photo app of Snapchat. But interestingly, Snapchat declined this requirement. Recently, the customer streams of Facebook keep losing gradually. And some people suspect that these customers go to Snapchat instead, although Snapchat did not announce the number of customers in their app.

With the increasing number of substitutes, the advantages of Facebook, fun and fresh, are no longer distinguishable. WeChat, Snapchat, Whatsup and Instagram are replacing Facebook. This is due to losing the points of difference. On the other hand, Facebook is in the situation that packaging ads to customers are no longer achievable due to the large amount of existed ads in their website. This suggests that Facebook loses their revenue streams. These two main reasons, losing customers and advertisers, lead the failure in Facebook shares.

How is Netflix Going to Alter its Value Proposition

Netflix is a online-base platform which provides customers streams to watch contents with a little cost. It used to have the images that the contents they own are outdated; the platforms they built on are hardly accessible; the searching engine is hard to handle etc. But Netflix realized and then decided to change quickly. Currently, they are trying to alter their customer experience. More precisely, the new user interface, platforms on traditional televisions, new lightweight platform, searching experience and social functions are believed that these parts can change and improve the images of Netflix significantly by providing a brand new searching, watching experiences for customers.

This action is going to change the value proposition of Netflix. Netflix used to target customers by their cheap prices and convenience, but the number of substitutes increased dramatically. Some online free-watching websites can function the same as Netflix. Concerning about the increasing competition in online-watching market, Netflix decided to figure out some value that customers are eager to pay like services, hot movies and better experiences.

This can also be analyzed from creating point of difference. In order to take charge in the whole market, they need to be distinguishable among all the companies. Being passive in either market itself or the eyes of customers is not a good strategy though. Point of difference makes them relieve from searching and asking for resources to provide for customers because the resources are not the only thing anymore they want.
