January is Sexual Assault Awareness Month at UBC!
Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is a UBC community initiative that was developed to help put an end to sexual violence and make our campus safer for everyone! We want to engage and inform the UBC community to spread awareness about this important issue. Our focus is a positive one – we intend to inspire people to realize that stopping sexual assault is everyone’s responsibility, and that as friends and bystanders, there are important and concrete actions we can all take to raise awareness and stop violence. For more information please email us at sa.awareness@ubc.ca.

Background
SAA was a program that emerged from a student-driven initiative in the Winter 09/10 session, Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Responding to what they saw as a lack of information on issues of sexualized violence on campus, students acted with the support of the Dean of Arts, Access & Diversity, and other campus partners to establish SAAM as an annual series of events. SAAM is intended to raise awareness and educate the campus community about the issues behind sexual assault and violence and urges us all to make positive social change.
This Website
Here on the SAAM website, you will find information and materials on both upcoming and past campaigns, you’ll find links to resources and discover ways you can get involved with SAAM 2012. By coming together as a community we can build awareness around sexual assault and take positive action towards education and prevention.
Hi there,
Can you tell me where the lecture is being held? I am the programming coordinator for UBC Sororities and very interested in making this one of the issues for January that we focus on, so would love to give girls the opportunity to attend.
Abigail
