Graduate Student Card
OBTAINING OR RENEWING A CARD
As a member of the Master of Management program, you are now considered a graduate student at UBC and may obtain a graduate student UBCcard to replace your undergraduate card. The graduate student card will be encoded to allow you access to the graduate breakout rooms and other graduate student areas at the Sauder School of Business.
STEPS TO APPLYING FOR YOUR UBCCARD
- Wait until the RHL Graduate School has registered you in courses. Registration will be done for you by the RHL Graduate School by early July and an announcement will be posted out once complete.
- Once registered, you can apply for UBCCard on-line
- Aafter applying on-line, allow 3 business days before going to pick up your UBCCard at the UBC Access Desk.
- If you have an expired/existing UBCcard: Bring your old card to the UBC Access Desk located at the UBC Bookstore (6200 University Boulevard). To obtain your graduate card, you must identify yourself as a Sauder graduate student.
- 24 hours after you obtain your card, it should automatically be activated and give you tap access to the MM student lounge and Graduate Breakout rooms within Sauder.
- If you experience any difficulties or have any questions, contact the Office Admin desk at 604-822-1386 or access@sauder.ubc.ca.
LOST/STOLEN UBCcard
Lost or stolen UBCcards must be reported IMMEDIATELY. UBC departments (including the Bookstore, Library, Food Services, Housing, Athletics and others) assume no responsibility for fraudulent use of your UBCcard before the Lost or Stolen Card Notification Form is submitted and processed by the UBC Carding Office.
UBC Enterprise Active Directory (EAD) Account
There are two small computer labs in the basement of the Sauder School of Business that are used for some MM courses.
All students must activate their UBC Enterprise Active Directory (EAD) account immediately so they are able to easily access the computers in the lab as soon as the program starts in June.
The EAD login ID is students’ CWL username with “.stu” added to the end (e.g, if your CWL is joesmith, your student EAD login ID would be joesmith.stu). Please note that you will have to change your CWL password in order to activate your EAD account.

Computers & Wireless Network
PERSONAL COMPUTERS
It is strongly recommended that all MM students purchase and bring their own laptop computer to the program. The principle reason for purchasing your own computer is accessibility, as your MM program will require you to produce many papers, projects, and presentations. We do not recommend using a tablet only as many programs do not interface well with a tablet and it can be more difficult to produce assignments.
BORROWING LAPTOPS
Laptops are available to borrow for up to 4 hours on a first-come first served basis from the Service Desk at the entrance to the Canaccord Learning Commons. Laptops are also available from other UBC libraries.
COMPUTER LABS
There are two small computer labs in the basement of the Sauder School of Business. All of the facilities are shared between Graduate and Undergraduate students (approximately 3,500 students) so access at any time is limited and can be especially problematic during peak periods such as the end of term. In order to use the computer labs, you must have an "EAD Account" (Click on "UBC Enterprise Active Directory (EAD) Account").
UBC WIRELESS NETWORK
The UBC Wireless Network allows students, faculty, and staff to seamlessly check their e-mail, surf the web and access the UBC network at high-speeds from almost anywhere on campus. For set-up instructions, refer to the following web site:

TROUBLE-SHOOTING
In the event that you are unable to connect to the UBC Wireless Network or have an unstable connection, please contact UBC IT for support.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
A VPN is needed to access UBC library databases and some other resources. You may need these resources to study and complete projects throughout the program. Once your CWL ID is set up, you can install the VPN using the instructions here.

There are over 25 libraries connected with UBC, with branches at the West Point Grey Campus, Robson Square Campus, and Vancouver General Hospital.
The library that you will most commonly use is the David Lam Management Research Library (Business Library) found on the 2nd floor of the Sauder School of Business. The David Lam Library is part of the Canaccord Learning Commons (CLC), which provides learning support services and opportunities to hone the skills that will help you succeed at Sauder and in the work world.

UBC Sauder Brand, Logo & Trademark Usage
UBC SAUDER BRAND, LOGO & TRADEMARK USAGE
Our students are an integral part of our brand; they actively and proudly represent and promote the UBC Sauder brand through their daily interactions within the school, across campus and outside of UBC. UBC Sauder strategically invests in the development of this brand, including our logos and marks, and has an obligation to manage the usage of these.
UBC Sauder students represent the School’s brand while interacting with the business community, participating in academic competitions, sporting events and joint initiatives. When doing so, students may request to use UBC Sauder’s logos and marks on clothing, equipment, etc. In all such cases, students are required to gain full approval from UBC Sauder before using our logos and marks in any manner.

Gaining Permission to Use UBC Sauder’s Logo and Marks
The following steps outline how students can seek approval to use UBC Sauder’s Logo and Marks.
- Contact your Program Manager/Advisor to advise how you wish to use UBC Sauder’s Logo and Marks at least four weeks prior to producing any materials.
- The Program Manager/Advisor will connect you with UBC Sauder’s Marketing & Communications department. A representative from this team will determine if approvals can be granted, and give direction on meeting the visual identity guidelines.
STUDENT PRESENTATION TEMPLATES
UBC Sauder Logo/Marks may only be used on a project presentation by UBC Sauder Students using the template provided by the UBC Sauder Marketing & Communications Department (featured below), if the following conditions are met:
- The UBC Sauder Student has undertaken the project as part of the academic requirements of their program at UBC Sauder under the direct supervision of a UBC Sauder faculty member; and
- The UBC Sauder Student has met all other requirements associated with the project (including such matters as securing ethics approvals).
As a condition of this permission, the UBC Sauder Student must ensure that it is clear to the audience that the project is being undertaken by a UBC Sauder Student for a specific UBC Sauder course, and that the conduct of the project is being supervised by a UBC Sauder faculty member, by providing the name and email of the UBC Sauder faculty member. This can be done in smaller print at the bottom of the page but must be reasonably legible.

Breakout Rooms & Lounge
GRADUATE BREAKOUT ROOMS
The Robert H. Lee Graduate school at the Sauder School of Business provides breakout rooms for graduate students to use for group study. These rooms are accessible by your UBCard (click on Graduate Student Card) and are located in the hallways near the Robert H. Lee Graduate School office.
Reserving a Room
All students should be mindful of the fact that there are over 300 students eligible to use these breakout rooms. Breakout Room Usage regulations are in place to ensure that all students have equal opportunity to use these shared spaces and these policies must be read in detail prior to booking.
- In order to use a room, you must book it online
- Rooms should only be used for group work, not individual study
- Rooms can only be booked for a maximum of four (4) hours on a single day
- Rooms cannot be reserved by the same person or group for concurrent 4 hour blocks
- Rooms may be booked up to six (6) weeks in advance
CANACCORD LEARNING COMMONS & ONLINE SUPPORT
The Canaccord Learning Commons offers a variety of options for individual and group study. Communal tables where quiet conversation is permitted are available on the main floor for individuals and small groups. Both the main and upper floors feature Silent Study areas. Study carrels are available on the upper floor, and all come equipped with a plug for electronics. Other bookable quiet study areas can be found in the Canaccord Learning Commons which can be booked online.
ADDITIONAL STUDY SPACES
There are some great study spots across the UBC campus if you’d like a change in environment.
MASTERS STUDENTS' LOUNGE
A lounge, available for the exclusive use of Masters students, is located in room HA 341 (3rd floor) of the Sauder School of Business. This space has refrigerators, sinks, microwaves, TVs, as well as quiet study areas for your use. The Masters student lounge is accessible by your activated UBCard (click on Graduate Student Card).

Lost & Found
With so many people using the RHL Graduate wing of the Henry Angus building, items may get misplaced.
If you find an item
- Personal items (e.g. a Student Card, wallet, etc.) found in the wing are to be left at the Sauder Security Desk located on the main floor of the building (for identity and/or security reasons)
- Non-personal items (e.g. a laptop charger, umbrella, etc.) should be turned in at the RHL Graduate School office (HA 137) reception.
If you've lost an item
- Personal items (e.g. a Student Card, wallet, etc.) may be inquired about at the Sauder Security Desk located on the main floor of the building.
- Non-personal items (e.g. a laptop charger, umbrella, etc.) may be inquired about at reception in the RHL Graduate School office (HA 137) desk until the Friday afternoon of the week that it was lost.
- After Friday of the week it was lost, you can inquire about lost items at the Parking and Access Desk in the UBC Bookstore.
- Check the UBC Lost & Found list
Unfortunately, not all items are turned it so it's best to keep track of your personal belongings and check the area you are working in before you leave!
