Sarah Gaulin Memorial Scholarship

The Gaulin Foundation is pleased to announce that it is once again accepting applications for the Sarah Gaulin Memorial Scholarship – a national scholarship that promotes the resilience of individuals with mental illness pursuing post-secondary education.

The $1,000 scholarships are being offered in honour of Sarah Gaulin, who died at the age of 26 after a longtime battle with mental illness.

In order to apply, students must be registered in a post-secondary institution and provide documented proof of their mental illness. The scholarship will be awarded to outstanding applicants who meet the criteria of the program. Deadline for applications is April 1, 2014.

Cerebral Palsy Association of BC – 2013 Fall Bursaries

The Cerebral Palsy Association of BC proudly offers 10 bursaries of $1,000.00 each, to any eligible student 17 years and older with CP, that is currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning, and is planning to continue their studies the following term.

Please note that even if a student has been awarded monies through this fund before, they are still eligible to apply. Applications must be postmarked no later than July 15, 2013.

Rick Hansen “Man in Motion” Fellowship

The Rick Hansen “Man in Motion” Fellowships are made available by the University of British Columbia to honour the incredible determination and many personal achievements of Rick Hansen.  Two fellowships, valued at $16,000 per year, are awarded each year to UBC graduate students with a physical disability.

 

Annual Value: $16,000

Richmond Centre for Disability – Information Session

The Richmond Centre for Disability is hosting an information session on January 16, 2012 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm explaining their Youth Engagement & Achievement Project and their involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Their goal is to invite more youth (with or without disabilities; from age 16 – 30) to join their Youth Group for its fun and empowering activities and courses, and to assist youth with disabilities (from age 14-25) who are interested in taking on the bronze level of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.   • Blind Field Shuttle, a participatory performance by Carmen Papalia presented first time in Vancouver, Friday July 27 at 6:30pm. The public is invited to participate in a non-visual art walk in the city led by Carmen Papalia starting and ending at Gallery Gachet.
  • Writing through the Body, a three hour workshop led by Carmen Papalia that will introduce participants to a number of strategies for addressing their bodies in their autobiographical writings. 2012 Accessible Media Inc. Scholarship Program

AMI is proud to introduce the 2012 Accessible Media Inc. Scholarship Program. Two scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded, one of which will be reserved for a student with a permanent disability.

To be eligible for the Accessible Media Inc. Scholarship Program, you must:

Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada

Be a student planning to enroll, or continuing to be enrolled, in full-time studies in a diploma or degree program at a Canadian post-secondary school in the 2012/2013 academic term

Students who attend or will be attending a Canadian post-secondary school in the 2012/2013 academic term in a reduced course load due to a permanent disability, but who are still considered by their post-secondary institution to be full-time students, are also eligible.
