Assessment and Learning in the Classroom (EPSE 310B)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will introduce secondary teacher candidates to principles and practices for effective, high-quality classroom assessment in the form of Team-Based Learning (TBL). During this course, secondary school teacher candidates will be introduced to:

  • Current trends in assessment with special reference to British Columbia (B.C)
  • How assessment, teaching, learning, and curriculum are linked (and how to link them)
  • The different functions of assessment and key principles of high-quality assessments
  • Approaches for creating a variety of formative and summative classroom assessments
  • Assessment strategies appropriate for diverse learners 
  • Issues with respect to grading and reporting
