We will be meeting in the Trail Room at SLAIS (Room 491), and will have Timbits to entice new & returning students! Come hear about BCLA/CLA, along with their sections, interest groups, and networks. Everyone is welcome!

Then come to the YAACS Life After Graduation Panel on Wednesday March 27th, 2013 at 6:00pm in the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre in Room 156.
We will have 5 youth services librarians there to answer any questions you may have about what it is like to work in the youth services field in libraries.

Join Pat Cumming and Amy Ashmore for a 1 hour information session about BCLA’s highly successful Mentorship Program and how you can get involved!
The Mentorship Program is designed to link new library professionals with mentors from a variety of different libraries and career backgrounds. Application to the program opens on March 1st, so if you are interested in learning more about the library profession and connecting to professional librarians then come out to this session!

Well, good news! CLA/ALA is hosting a marathon reading event on
Thursday, February 28th from 8 am – 8 pm in the Lilloet Room in IKBLC.
“What’s this ‘marathon reading’ business?” you’re probably asking your computer screen.
Well, your computer screen just so happens to have a response! Folks can sign up to read their favourite banned or challenged books for ten minutes. There will be baked goods for sale and a drawing for prizes for anyone who participates.
How do I sign up?!” you’re definitely exclaiming to the universe at large.

On Tuesday February 5th from 11:00am-12:00pm, Richard Hopkins, Board Member of the Alcuin Society, Professor Emeritus at SLAIS, and avid book lover and seller, will be sharing how he has used his experience as a librarian and lifelong reader to become an independent bookseller.
Richard is an enthusiastic member of local associations including the Alcuin Society and the Vancouver Writer’s Fest, with an impressive knowledge of Canadian writers (most of whom he seems to have met!). If you are interested in learning more about the independent book market and how you can become more involved in local events and societies like Alcuin, then join us for an hour of talk about librarians, books, and the book market! All are welcome!

Deb and Aditi will share with us information about Visible Minority Librarians of Canada (ViMLoC), a CLA network approved in December 2011.
