Recently, Google won a lawsuit against a lawsuit from the FTC about its search bias on its own website. A few internet bloggers say this will help Google to dominate the internet space and they betrayed their company philosophy of “Don’t do Evil”(not exact word). Before we jump to conclusion, lets define what evil means…one of the definition I pulled from dictionary.com

Is Google doing any morally wrong or bad deeds? Most of their software; maps, docs, search engines, analytics etc. are free. Is being generous and giving away free services as a welfare gesture to the public wrong? I don’t think so…
Google was accused of skewing search results.This move, in my view, is to ensure Google can generate ad revenue. I would have to say manipulation of data is wrong like lying. But sometime in life we need lies to create goods. In this case, Google is (kinda) lying so that they can put links of their own ads and software ahead of its competitions to ensure revenue income and looking after its shareholders best interest. Is that evil? I would have to say no again.
As a part of Generation Y, I was taught at school to think critically and do research. Thanks to Google, I’m able to go just that. If I ever had any doubts about Google’s suggestions. There are always third party website / blogs that provides unbiased reviews as my options.
