Unit 3 Reflection
The process of creating the formal draft report was rather difficult. While the idea of the draft seems straight forward, I struggled with the actual researching of the topic because the information I needed was not accessible on the internet. My formal report is looking at how implementing a self-serving Keno machine in Lotto stores would benefit both Keno players and employees, but data on lottery stores is very limited. For instance, I could not even find the cost of a machine. I then went on to ask previous co-workers, including assistant managers, but they did not have the information I needed either. For this reason, gathering all the information I need to create a convincing argument is proving to be a challenge. In terms of organizing and writing the report, I am quite familiar with formal writing so this did not have many issues. I think this assignment was very good practice however, for helping us learn the basics in writing a formal report. Organization and professionalism is incredibly important, so these are things that I aimed for when writing.
Peer reviewing Money’s formal report draft once again demonstrated how helpful peer reviewing is when doing an assignment. Money has an interesting problem he wants to solve, and did so in a very well done manner. His report was organized and thoughtful. While Money’s report had a few errors, such as spelling or grammatical errors, there were not many flaws in terms of the actual report. Because it was done so well, it helped me look back on my own report to see if it also looked well thought out and convincing. Also, one thing I immediately realized from Money’s report was that he had included headings and page numbers on every page, something I had forgotten to include on my own. Even immediate things like this can be noticed when peer reviewing. However, all in all, what I learned the most from peer editing for this assignment is looking at the structure of the draft and making sure that I had all the components that allowed the report to flow smoothly. Because Money’s assignment did so, it gave me a good reference for how it should feel.
