Digital Story

My course is a grade 3 science course of plant growth and changes, from the Newfoundland and Labrador curriculum.

My digital story is called “It Starts With A Seed…” It is a story that would be shown to students before beginning this unit to get students thinking about the differences between plants and how plants change over time. There is no lesson in this story, but it is meant to begin the thinking process about this particular topic.

Intro Module Reflection – Jessica Shea

Intro Module Reflection

For this assignment I chose to work with Google Classroom. I focused my course on the Newfoundland and Labrador grade 3 Science curriculum of Plant Growth and Changes (Education and Early Childhood Development, 2017). I have never had to do anything like this before and honestly didn’t really know anything about Google Classrooms but decided to use it because I’ve heard of others using it at the age level of which I teach (primary/elementary). I think that in the future this is something that I’ll be able to use as a tool in my classroom! Continue reading

Personal Reflection – Jessica

My personal reflection for this assignment will be divided into two different sections. First I will discuss my experiences with my group, and second I will discuss the rationale, trying to not repeat too much from the assignment!

This assignment designated me to work with Che, Sally and Ghassan. We initially discussed our ideas over Google Hangouts, which led to a couple video chats that allowed us to converse about our evaluation rubric and what we hoped to achieve. I really enjoyed working with this group and it was great to work with someone who works somewhere that had actually gone through the process of choosing a LMS before. This allowed for some great insight behind the procedures and practices that are followed in a real life situations and how a team is developed to choose a LMS. As such, our group was able to go through each and every part of our rubric with the selection team in mind to ensure we covered all areas that were necessary to cover. Continue reading

Flight Path for Jessica Shea

My name is Jessica Shea and I am from Conception Bay South, Newfoundland. I am 26 years old and am in my fifth year of substitute teaching. I received my Bachelor of Education (primary/elementary) with a focus in Physical Education in 2013 from Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN). After substituting for a couple years, I began to pick away at my Special Education degree online at MUN. About halfway through that program I was accepted into the MET program and decided to put my Special Education degree on hold while I completed my master’s degree online at UBC. I was fortunate enough to complete my internship in the K-4 school I went to as a child, and have now become a main substitute teacher there, working most days. Unfortunately the demand for teachers is low in Newfoundland, so I am very eager for a position. Continue reading
