Motivation & Orientation |
Motivation for activities is clear and effective. Students become aware of their current views and knowledge, and make predictions about activities where applicable | Motivation for activities is moderately clear, and not effective. Students share current views and knowledge, but orientation is not well -focused on the topic. | Motivation is for activities is unclear or absent from lesson design. |
Observation & Restructuring |
Discussion and/or activities promote conceptual conflict and exchange of ideas. Sufficient information and reinforcement is provided to effectively support meaning-making | Discussion or activities touch on surface issues, or are mostly one-way. Students have some support and some access to additional resources, but not enough. | Discussion and activities promoting the exchange of ideas are absent from lesson design. Support and access to additional resources are absent, unrelated, or insufficient. |
Activity & Application |
Students apply ideas in a relevant setting to make meaning of their learning. Learning is situated in hands-on or realistic settings which support and knowledge construction. | Students apply their ideas in a new setting which is moderately relevant. Review & Discussion |
Learners are given an opportunity to review what they learned, and explain how the activity matched or did not match their predictions, and why.
