Dr. Mads Daugaard, PhD, Molecular Pathology

Senior Research Scientist at Vancouver Prostate Centre | Assistant Professor at Department of Urologic Sciences | Member of Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

Faculty of Medicine – University of British Columbia

Dr. Daugaard has a PhD degree from the Danish Cancer Society and Institute of Molecular Pathology, University of Copenghagen. He did his postdoctoral training in molecular pathology with Dr. Poul Sorensen, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of British Colombia, Vancouver, BC. In addition to managing the Molecular Pathology core, Dr Daugaard runs several technology development projects for molecular pathology.

Dr. Ladan Fazli, MD, Pathology

She has a medical degree from National University of Iran and is specialised on Anatomical and Clinical Pathology. As a pathologist dedicated to research, her main expertise is target discovery and validation of prognostic and predictive cancer biomarkers using IHC, PLA, CISH, and FISH on tissue microarrays of human and xenograft tumor samples.

Dr. Antonio Hurtado-Coll, MD

Dr. Hurtado-Coll is involved in the collection, archiving and database entry of the VPC tissue repository from surgical procedures at VGH.

Dr. Htoo Zarni Oo, MD, PhD, Molecular Pathologist

Dr. Oo has an MD from University of Hiroshima with a PhD in molecular pathology. Dr. Oo assists Drs. Daugaard and Fazli on technology development and pathology assesment of tissue from human patients and murine xenograft studies.

Ms. Estelle Li, M.Sc

Estelle has a M.Sc. in biochemistry from China. Estelle Li has 10 years of experience working in the pathology unit at the Vancouver Prostate Centre. She is trained in all areas of the laboratory but specializes in IHC, IF, CISH, in situ PLA, H&E staining and sectioning.

Ms. Janet Liew, B.Sc

Janet has a B.Sc. in Biotechnology from UBC. Janet Liew has 6 years of experience working in the pathology department at the Vancouver Prostate Centre. She is trained in all areas of the laboratory but specializes in biobanking, tissue microarray construction, macrodissection, wholemount paraffin sectioning, cryosectioning, IHC and H&E staining.

Dr. Ali Moeen, M.Sc, PhD

Ali holds a B.Sc. in Zoology, M.Sc. in medical microbiology and a Ph.D. in medical biotechnology and molecular biology. Previously, Dr. Moeen has worked as a postdoc and research associate at UBC.

Dr. Moeen oversees and operates our digital scanning system and assists Ms. Li and Ms. Liew with IHC procedures, proximity ligation assays, tissue processing and compilation of TMAs.
