Innovators At Work

What motivates the chronically innovative? What keeps them experimenting and inventing through failure and skepticism?

The Globe and Mail recently ran a series on innovators at work. They featured a diverse bunch from iconic entrepreneur James Dyson to Canada’s Jimmy Pattison, AIDS pioneer Dr. Julio Montaner and Abeego founder, Toni Desrosiers. These are a group of people who find ‘exceptional solutions to everyday problems.’

In the series, we hear how these diverse innovators approach their work and how they came upon their latest inventions. Here, for instance, is a video clip from DJ Alan Smithson – Co-founder and CEO of SmithsonMartin – featuring his superhigh-tech Emulator Elite screen. “We make software that allows any musician or DJ or lighting guy to put all their controls – from physical controls to touch controls – on a touch screen.’
