At EDST Research Day 2025, the department took a moment to recognize one of its most dedicated and community-oriented graduate students: Yotam Ronen, recipient of the inaugural GAA Recognition and Appreciation Award for Exemplary Service to the Student Community.
Yotam’s impact on EDST has been far-reaching. From his time as a Graduate Academic Assistant (GAA) to his leadership in launching and coordinating the department’s EDST PhD Colloquium over the past two years, Yotam has consistently gone above and beyond in his efforts to foster a vibrant, supportive academic environment.
“No person has done more to cultivate a sense of academic community than Yotam,” shared MC Daniel Gallardo
His contributions span the formal and informal dimensions of student life: organizing events and lectures, hosting social gatherings, editing the EDST blog, and supporting countless students as they navigate the key milestones of graduate school. Whether helping peers with committee selection, grant writing, or comprehensive exams, Yotam has become a trusted guide and generous mentor for many.
“He spent countless hours mentoring others,” the presenter noted, “offering support around proposal development and academic transitions—often far beyond what any role required.”
Though Yotam is nearing PhD completion, his legacy remains. The structures he helped build, the knowledge he shared, and the spirit of community he nurtures will continue to shape the department for years to come.

From all of us: thank you, Yotam. Your work has made EDST stronger, more connected, and more human.
