According to International New York Times, CVS Caremark, the largest drugstore in the United States has planned to stop celling the tobacco products by this October. The decision was made to eliminate its hypocritical environment to be selling the tobacco products at where pharmacists and nurse practitioners helping patients manage many of the health issues linked to smoking.

Reducing the population of smokers especially for those who are young is a serious task in the United States because the research Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of Health and Human Services, addressed in the article shows that 3,200 children under 18 who tried smoking, 700 of them will continue smoking. In other words, 5.6 million American children who are alive today will die because of the diseases linked to the smoking.

While Nik Modi, an investment analyst who follows tobacco stocks at RBC Capital Markets, comments that this CVS’s decision would not have a big impact since approximately three-quarters of cigarette sales occur in convenience stores, Kathleen believes that it would have considerable impact.

Although the profit of the company will decline due to this decision, they believe that it will help them define how to position the company for the future growth.
