Subject:              301 Thu Vo Research on Professional Networking on LinkedIn

For assignment 2.2 on the English 301 website, each student has been asked to write a brief summary on his research concerning best practices for professional networking on LinkedIn. I am happy to showcase my list of ten best practices below:

  1. Professional Profile Photo: Opt for a professional headshot that portrays you in a positive manner.
  2. Utilize Keywords: Include relevant, searchable keywords in your LinkedIn profile to attract search engines and hiring managers.
  3. Gather Recommendations: Having your skills and experience testified by respectable sources such as previous employers or clients will boost your credibility to potential employers.
  4. Give away Endorsements: Endorsing connections with exposure to your skills increases the chance of them returning the favor.
  5. Send Personalized Connection Requests: A customized LinkedIn request reminding a potential connection of how you met or what you have in common is more convincing than a default one.
  6. Set Realistic Growth Goals: The number of connections that you have affects your search ranking on LinkedIn. Aim to increase quality connections steadily and reasonably within set periods of time.
  7. Stay Active within LinkedIn: Keeping your profile up-to-date, engaging with your existing connections through comments on their posts or sharing valuable information regularly will increase exposure and establish your personal brand on the platform.
  8. Use LinkedIn Groups: Sharing industry updates or discussing ideas in LinkedIn Groups are great ways to form new connections.
  9. Learn about Employers and Connections: LinkedIn’s Advanced Search and Company Profile Pages offer insight into potential companies and professionals you want to connect with.
  10. Meet your Connections: Reaching out to your professional contacts for informational interviews is rewarding. You can explore a career field and build lasting relationships.

Please let me know if you have any question. Thank you for your time.
