Progress Report Memo – Madison Davies

MEMORANDUM

To: Dr. Erica Paterson, English 301 Instructor

From: Madison Davies

Date: February 24, 2019

Subject: English 301 – Assignment 2:3 – Formal Report Progress Memo

As you per your request, I am writing to you today in order to provide you with an update on the progress I have made thus far on my Formal Report and details on my schedule moving forward.

Audience of the Report:

The intended reader for my final report is the manager of the Body Energy Club located on Robson and Homer in Vancouver, BC. As the leader at this local Body Energy Club, the manager has the authority to implement new policies and has direct contact to those higher up in the company.

Purpose of the Report:

To eliminate the usage of plastic straws at the Body Energy Club located on Robson and Homer. I will examine both employees and customers in order to determine their views on implementing alternatives to the plastic straw. I will also examine the cost benefit analysis of paper straws and reusable metal straws.

Significance of the Report:

This report is significant because today in 2019, plastic waste is an evident problem. Although plastic straws only make up a small portion of this access waste, eliminating their usage would be an important stepping stone to implementing other environmentally friendly plastic-free options into the food industry.

Research Plan:

Feb 24 – Compose questions for the short interviews

Feb 25-28 – Conduct primary research at the Body Energy Club located at Robson and Homer by surveying customers and employees.

March 1-2 – Assemble and summarize data.

March 3-8 – Conduct secondary research including referencing other health food stores who have eliminated plastic straws. Gather statistics including if this influenced sales positively or negatively.

March 10 – Complete rough draft of final research proposal.

March 17 – Complete peer review of peer’s formal report draft in Last But not Least Team.

March 18 – Continue revising formal report based on peer critique.

April 9 – Complete formal report and submit via UBC blogs.

I have attached below the links to my formal report outline and my interview questions. I appreciate that you are taking the time to review my progress report. Please let me know if you have any comments or concerns.

Sincerely,

Madison Davies
