Consider me a 522/523 poseur - I have no formal training in business, technology or education. I have a Ph.D. in astronomy and one of my first jobs was Director of the UBC Observatories. Along the way I've been a science museum director, dot.com CEO, research lab director, and founder of a high-tech incubator. One common thread is that every role was a venture - I created the position in each case. I'm happiest as an innovator and entrepreneur.
In its one words, the annual Educause: Top Ten IT Issue, helps innovators in higher education to “navigate the road to digital transformation (Dx).” Although EDUCAUSE’s goal in publishing its top ten list is to strengthen higher education its insights are also useful and valuable for both K-12 educators and industry learders. By identifying the trending IT issues facing higher education administrators and faculty it is informing the larger community of practitioners of potential areas of strategic collaboration. For example the 2020 Top Ten list highlights the challenges that making high education more sustainable by making it more affordable and successful. This directly affects student preparedness and innovative funding models. Without the help of industry and secondary school leaders any comprehensive changes to a student success strategy is futile.
