ProctorExam II: from Idea to Pitch

Into the Pitch Pool, we find a lot of changemakers and their ideas. ProctorExam: Flexible exams for online learning post by my colleague John Wu on January 25, 2022, caught my attention by the performance of the CEO, Daniel Haven, and the concept of the venture. This solution was capable of resolving an essential chain for digital education, providing digital exams for remote online students. Digging deeply into Daniel Haven’s videos, I found a Pitch of ProctorExam from 2014 where he explained the concept and facets of the plain business venture.

I believe that it is worth watching and comparing the pitches, illustrating different moments in the evolution and presentation of a venture.

    Hi Alexei,

Thanks so much for sharing this pitch! I think this is a great example of a venture pitch. Under ten minutes, but direct and impactful. I think the way the CEO speak adds to the credibility: he is calm cool and collected, but very clearly gets to the crux of the issue: why would someone be asked to travel thousands of kilometres to attend an exam in the 21st century? Just as he says, the product he is selling is filling a gap in the market, a “missing link”. His audience in the room does not need a ‘showy’ or forceful presentation to see the merit of this tool.

It was interesting that he explained also some of the early tests they did, noting that students could place sticky notes on the ceiling and that they had experienced an internet outage. Then he describes how they were able to overcome these challenges to increase the effectiveness of their approach to remote exam proctoring.

    Great example!
