Hi everyone, it’s Vera Xiong sending you greetings from the beautiful British Columbia. I am thrilled to be part of the Ventures in Learning Technologies course, and this summer I’m taking my last two courses in MET.
As a student, I am passionate about exploring the intersection of technology and education. I believe that learning technologies have the power to radically change the way we acquire knowledge, collaborate with others, and engage in the learning process. With a keen interest in this field, I am eager to delve deeper into the various aspects of learning technologies and understand their impact on post pandemic education.
While I don’t have a teaching background, my role as a Student Engagement Coordinator at Langara College has given me invaluable experiences working with international students, which I consider cocurricular teaching. Over the past six years, I have had the privilege of growing student leaders, facilitating club activities, and training student volunteers via workshops. Through these interactions, I have witnessed firsthand how technology can enhance educational experiences, foster creativity, and empower students to take ownership of their learning.
In this course, I am eager to expand my knowledge and gain practical skills in leveraging learning technologies effectively. I am excited to explore online learning platforms, educational apps, virtual reality, and especially artificial intelligence as Dr. Vogt eluded to. I believe that by understanding the theoretical foundations and practical applications of these technologies, I can better contribute to creating inclusive and innovative learning environments.
I am looking forward to engaging in stimulating discussions, collaborating with you all, and learning from Dr. Vogt.
Thank you, and I can’t wait to embark on this incredible learning journey with all of you!
Warmly,
Vera Xiong
Hi Vera,
I had a very similar role as you did working in international education at Douglas College until late last year and I certainly share your view in that I also consider it cocurricular teaching. Looking forward to hearing more about your perspectives and learning with you in this course!
Thanks Richard. Journey on!
