Higher Education Technologies – Alec Whitters

HIGHER LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES

HLT provides an array of study tools accessible via smartphones and provides learners with the opportunity to learn on the go. Whether somebody is preparing for the MCAT, DAT, university admissions, or even real estate, HLT offers products that will serve students much better than hauling around flashcards. The content and practice questions that HLT provides are supported by their many partners and rated highly by user reviews and organizations such as the Huffington Post.

ALEC WHITTERS

Whitter was a dental student at the University of Iowa who believed it ridiculous that he couldn’t use his smartphone to support and organize his studies rather than the paper he was keeping track of. Along with Adam Keune and Ben O’Connor, he set about designing his own applications that other creators declined to consider.

Whitters had direct experience with academic studying and also had a background in sales. With this skillset and motivation, he set about creating an incredibly successful company. Now with a six-member board of directors and a staff of 30-40 individuals, HLT has a bright future. The board is comprised of CEOs, presidents, board members, and founders of various enterprises, including the ACT which would be highly applicable to their products.

I find HLT’s story inspirational. Whitters and the other two founders recognized an opportunity that existed in the form of what they considered to be a missing tool, and they acted on it. They may not have had all the requisite skills and education, but they developed and acquired it through hard work and determination.
