What an interesting mob!

Well, week one is almost done and we’ve been introduced to just about everyone in the course.

Thanks so much for your words of introduction and warm welcomes. This is quite an amazing group any way you cut it – professional experience, geographical distribution, interests, etc. I’m humbled, and excited for our journey together!

A few comments and updates:

– by now you’ll have realized this is a pretty big group (slightly over 40) and that our WordPress stream will often feel like a firehose. Please make it easy on everyone by making your contributions (both posts and comments) brief and high in value. Also, there are lots of tools and techniques for managing the flow successfully – if you’ve got any you’d like to share (or questions you’d like to ask) please post something in the Blog Cafe. Drowning or washing out is not an option!

– you can also email me (internally or externally) whenever you have a question or concern.

– as stated elsewhere, ETEC522 is always experimenting with something, so don’t hesitate to shout out if something is broken or mystifying. For example, the avatar-changing tool wasn’t working a few days ago and our tech crew is aiming to fix it. And I’ll be making some big modifications to some of the material for weeks 3-4 over the weekend (another experimental polling plugin!) so don’t worry if some of the content changes.

– given the diverse interests and expertise within our group I’d like to encourage everyone to seek ways to creatively enhance the learning experience for yourself and everyone else. For example, the topics of Assignments 1 & 3 are meant to be places you can dive into something you’re deeply interested in. They could possibly pursue the same topic, through different lenses, but most likely will be completely unrelated to each other, yet still close to your heart. A1 could analyse a project, initiative, product or company you’re fascinated by. A3 should be an opportunity to conjure up a venture that could become the future of your career.

– I see that most people have done the Emerging Markets Poll. Remember that there are 21 potential markets (so far) and you’re meant to vote positively for 8 and negatively for another 8. I’ll close the poll on Sunday afternoon and distribute your resulting A2 assignments Sunday evening.

All good so far, and thanks again for propelling this fine adventure.

David
