Hello from Prince George, BC

Hello all,

My name is Megan and I’ve been living in Prince George for nearly 4 years now. My partner and I relocated here after teaching at a BC offshore school in Cairo, where I taught for 3 years. Prior to that I worked as a TTOC in Vernon, BC. Other than technology, my biggest area of interest in second language learning. All of my teaching has involved teaching students a second language (or sometimes teaching students a third language using their second language). I have been teaching elementary French Immersion since moving to Prince George and am currently teaching Grades 4/5.

In my free time I enjoy skiing, hiking, canoeing, camping, quilting, knitting, and baking. I’m hopeful we will be able to get out a lot this summer but am being realistic as both my partner and I are back in school.

I am a bit nervous about this course but I do think I will learn a lot, which is quite exciting. This is my second semester of MET and I am taking two courses as I found the first semester pretty manageable. Hopefully that wasn’t because it’s easy to stay indoors during most of the winter in PG! The days are getting really long here which has been great for backyard fires and long walks or hikes so I may have to self-motivate a bit more!

In any case, I’m very interested to see where this course leads us and am looking forward to getting to know folks better!

Cheers,

Megan

    Hi Megan,

It is great to meet you. At times like these I really envy those that have relocated to the interior. PG is one of my favorite places in the province. I make an annual pilgrimage to Berman Lake (near Bednesti) with a buddy – in fact I would like nothing better than to be writing this from the yurt right now.

I look forward to working with you on Assignment #2. It should be lots of fun. I see that this is your second term in the program – I highly recommend ETEC 565D the Digital Game and Design course. Everything we learn here will be very applicable to that course.

    All the best,
    Jamie

    Hi Megan,
Nice to meet you. Intrigued to hear that you worked in Cairo for a bit. Did you by chance run into a Mr. Bob Long in the process of completing those 3 years? I remember the idea of teaching in Cairo was posed to me by Bob (he was my old principal and in charge of recruiting teachers for a BC school in Egypt, I believe) a few years ago.
Anyways, nice to meet you, and good luck on doubling up your courses.
