Using Playlists to Personalize Learning

Ok, at first I was looking for educational aspects of music apps, but then I came across this article and it really hit home with me. Before I became an administrator, I taught exclusively at alternate programs where the ideas of personalized learning was tantamount as your student population was fluid to a degree so you didn’t always know where they had left off. Also, a majority of the population presented immense learning agps they needed to be addressed on a case by case basis. We personalized almost all the work, though still having “class time” as a chance to catch up with everyone and present new ideas and promote healthy verbal dialog.

Looking forward to what schools and learning will look like, the initial idea, though still not attainable, presented in the article is very interesting:

“Imagine a school where students arrive at their classroom and start their day by using their mobile device to scan a unique QR code posted on the door. The QR code points the students to a website that includes a series of activities aligned with their individual learning needs. As the teacher enters the room a short time later, she briefly conferences with each student regarding his or her progress, while the rest of the class continues to engage with their tasks.” https://literacyworldwide.org/blog/literacy-now/2018/06/08/using-playlists-to-personalize-learning

The idea of presenting students with “playlists” of learning materials where they choose where they want to start is very appealing. As the article states, “(playlists create) opportunities to expand the roles of student and teacher in diverse, exciting ways that better meet individual student needs.” https://literacyworldwide.org/blog/literacy-now/2018/06/08/using-playlists-to-personalize-learning It also enables the learner to access their education on numerous platforms, so they can use the technology that is most comfortable to them.

They could also listen to their favourite playlist while working on their playlist… 😉
