What does UNESCO do for mobile learning?

<Resource Mining.>

I was surprised to learn and rather ashamed not to know that “despite advances in publishing, books remain out of reach for large numbers of people… in poor neighborhoods in the United States, the ratio of children to books is 300 to 1.” (UNESCO, 2019) I also learned that even though some parts of the world are “book-poor” these same regions are becoming increasingly “mobile-rich.” According to the World Bank, in 2018, there were 107 mobile cellular subscriptions for every 100 people in the world.  Provided the pervasiveness of mobile devices and the rapid expansion of infrastructure and carrier technology, UNESCO is optimistic that mobile technologies might make learning more “accessible, equitable and personalized for students everywhere.” In 2012 UNESCO published a series of papers to that examine how mobile technologies can support policy-makers, educators and other stakeholders to enhance learning for all.

If you are interested, I encourage you to read the UNESCO Working Paper Series on Mobile Learning.  It is easily accessed right from your cell phone or tablet.

    Hi Jamie! Great resource! I loved learning about what large global organizations like UNESCO is doing for mobile learning. I’m having trouble accessing some of the UNESCO Working Papers though. I just get a blank page when I click on the paper titles. Anyone else experienced a similar issue or know how to fix it? Thank you!

    This is such a great resource, because it is available in various languages and has information specific to each region, and the mobile site is designed so well – I viewed on both my laptop and iPhone and had a similar experience. They’ve promised an update to the series, and I need to create a google alert for it or see if there’s another way to get notified that they’ve been published.
