drum pads 24

This is a fantastic sample/drum pad music making machine that I use not only for my music class but for any music my students want to build themselves to add to projects.  The layout is quite simple, with 12 pads that act as sample triggers that you can upload sample packs into to tap out your own songs.  The beauty in this mobile app is its simplicity of use combined with the myriad of creations students can build on an ipad or their phone.  I often have students use this to create original tracks then upload that music into their Scratch projects, for example an interactive story, or game, to help them realize that they have the power to build their own music.  Students can also jam together and create collaborative projects that hit so many of those key competencies in our new BC curriculum. A great mobile tool for any educator.  Here is a link to the app

When it comes to cross curricular education, I find that music tends to get left out, unless it is combined with other performing arts classes. This app is an example of opening this up; students could start incorporating their own original music into their power point presentations and demonstrating their knowledge of fractions with different drumbeats. It also shows students that music does not have to be about playing traditional instruments; everyone has the opportunity to expres themselves through music in anyway that they see fit.
