K-12 Blueprint: BYOD

I came across this website as I was doing some research into “Bring Your Own Device” and how to successfully implement it into a classroom and school. I am NOT saying that this site is amazing and the “be all, end all”… but what I found interesting is how in-depth they went into the factors that need to be addressed to successfully launch a program like this. It has 18 pdf boxes with ranging topics from “Getting Started with BYOD” to “BYOD Presentation for District Administrators”. I do understand that this a for-profit company focussed on “…a future where educators understand and use technology as fluently as they do any other learning tool or instructional strategy—with resourcefulness, confidence, and skill.” https://www.clarity-innovations.com/about yet it never completely dawned on me all the potential steps, as an administrator, that may need to be gone through to implement a thoroughly successful BYOD program. One step that, in my mind, I kind of took for granted was “Getting Parents Support For BYOD.” As a parent somewhat adept with technology, I am quite at ease with my kids using their tech at school (and home right now), but for parents that are not tech savvy, or do not have the resources to purchase tech, BYOD could be a intimidating endeavour. I really like their ideas of information sessions with usable tech present, test roll outs, and looking into special stipends to help purchase both technology and internet access for some families. Again, I’m not saying that this is an amazing resource, but the topics in it did start me thinking about how to really roll out a BYOD program as smoothly as possible and all the things that need to be taken into account.
