A1: Google Expeditions

In this assignment, I go through two experiences that I have used with my students and students from other classes. The first experience is AR, while the second one is VR and basically I wanted to share a resource that is out there already, and is excellent for those who want to introduce AR or VR to their class for the first time. I should note that although you can use VR Goggles for the VR experience, they are not required.

Hi Jonathan, our division has been spending more on Chromebooks, which have their own limitations. Personally, I like the idea of students having their own technology, however then you run into the limitations of students who do not have their own devices, especially with the younger grades. I have used Expeditions on some old iPads, however with each update I wonder if they will still be useful.

This looks like a fun thing to try with my class. I’d have to look up how to get that running with my district as we have some oculus vr headsets to use. I’m also curious if some of our aging iPads at my school could handle it. I’m thinking out loud because I wonder if schools should keep investing in tablets, computers, VR headsets etc when most students have their own tech already. Of course I think more should be invested, but at current levels it’s difficult to use the limited and aging technology in meaningful ways. Is your experience different than mine?
