Finally, A Cloud-Based Music Daw

Cloud-based services provide the user with the ability to access software applications that run on shared computing resources like, processing power, memory, and disk storage via the Internet. A program called Bandlab created the first cloud-based DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Why is this a big deal for music educators? For years running a legitimate recording technology program would cost thousands of dollars on top of access to a computer lab or Ipad cart. Every one of these devices would deal to have the hard drive capability to store multiple students’ large amount of digital content. On top of that through COVID into the mix where half of your class might be learning from home. Bandlab has got your back! Bandlab is browser-based (google chrome required) which means it can be accessed on any device, making it a perfect fit for a school alongside BYOD policy.  As an educational tool, it’s both free and easy to use, and no deployment or installation is necessary. On Bandlab you can create a band with other users, all have access to the same set of songs and work on songs together. This provides home learners with an opportunity to interact with the students at school or around the world. On top of all of this, it’s a surprisingly good DAW with more features and a better sound library than Garageband. The music industry and the way we interact with music has changed drastically in 2020, students need to develop the skillset to create and record original material, and not focus on the 111th annual regurgitation of hot cross buns on the recorder. Bandlab provided a solid foundation for the user to learn and interact with elements like effects, tempo, samples, audio/instrument recording, drum machines, and much more.
