Multi-Device Learning and Articulate 360

Articulate 360 is an online learning platform (subscription-based) that appears to have encapsulated the essence of mobile learning.  It is a series of apps, including Rise 360 and Storyline 360, both for designing courses for e-learning that can be used on any device.  Their marketing uses the phrase “…it auto-magically plays on any device.”  The two course authoring tools allow for different types of course design: slide-based learning (Storyline 360) and web-based learning (Rise 360), which involves scrolling rather than clicking through a series of slides.  Articulate 360 seems to be primarily focused on professional learning, such as workplace LMS’s, but it does have a discount for schools and is used by some K-12 educators; check out this example on your mobile and your desktop (example found in the Articulate e-learning examples).

Even if the platform is out of reach for a school’s budget, there are some interesting resources and articles about multi-device learning that are easy reads and might be worth looking at for people interested in creating course content that will be consumed on multiple devices. I also love Articulate, although I did find there is a huge learning curve to start using it. Linked in Learning has some great courses to use the software! The thing that is great about this program is how customizable it is. You can add sound files, movies, images, and personalize your colour palette. The user can be very creative and learners can be immersed in wonderful learning experiences, depending on the designer.

It seems that Articulate is a diverse software with great potential. Also, I was not aware of LinkedIn Learning. Thank you for mentioning it, there are so many topics available!

I love Articulate 360! It is one of my all time favourite eLearning tools. Specifically I love the large Articulate community, it is extremely helpful! The eLearning examples you shared is an excellent example of this shared knowledge through the eLearning Heroes community hub. Responsive eLearning is incredibly helpful for corporate learning, but do you think it is something that will be eventually incorporated in classrooms?

Thanks for your comments, Emma. It’s nice to hear from someone who has experience with Articulate, it looks like an interesting program to use with a variety of applications. I do think that responsive eLearning will become important for student learning, both in the classroom and, more importantly, out of the classroom, if it’s not already. Students are on the move and many of them have multiple devices that they may use in a given day. Online classes, checking assignments or reviewing class notes on the bus ride to school, studying with friends – these can all have mobile requirements and could be done with different devices for each student depending on their situation and access to devices.
